Thinking Out Loud: Weird Edition

Everyone’s a little bit weird. That’s a fact. Google it. There’s a quote to prove my conjecture.

I have another theory: everyone thinks that they are actually the weirdest person in the world. I’d be lying if I didn’t say I thought so about myself from time to time. I recently learned that some people find it annoying when someone claims to be weirder than others, so that’s not what I’m really here to do. For today’s Thinking Out Loud (haven’t participated in a while!), I’m going to share some personal quirks. Because we’re all normal. But we’re all a little bit weird.

1. This is how I squeeze my toothpaste. I literally squeeze it, in the center. I’ve been told multiple times that I’m doing it wrong, but I really don’t care. IMG_1026

2. I’m convinced that if you dry your bedsheets after washing them outside they smell like sunshine. I rarely dry my sheets in our dryer anymore because it sucks (think: squeaking for the duration of the cycle and leaves black streaks on what you’re drying), so I don’t know what I’m going to do when winter hits.

3. I tried to open a banana with my feet this morning. The host herself, Amanda (thanks for hosting, by the way!) challenged me to the task yesterday. I need to work on my technique, as I couldn’t quite turn the banana around. I didn’t want it to drop on the floor, so I stopped before I could make a fatal mistake.

4. Have I mentioned on here before that I HATE, with a passion, dill pickles. Maybe I have. Like I don’t even want them on my plate at a restaurant. I’ll make my brother take them off of my plate. Moral of the story: they’re nasty (sorry).

5. I really only feel comfortable walking next to someone if they’re on my right side. Left feels “off” and unbalanced.

6. I was totally in love with my first car. I know I’ve mentioned it on here before, but it was a 1989 Toyota Camry. I named him Norm because he reminded me of an old man. I also rarely cleaned the inside, so I liked to joke that he was a dirty old man. If you had asked me what I wanted for my first car years ago, that would never have been the answer. It’s so old! Right? Well, I feel so fortunate to (one) have had a car in the first place and (two) to have not had the newest car ever because now I know that a car is definitely not an investment but totally an expense.

Sadly, this past week my family had to decide to put Norm to rest. I might have teared up a little when I found out. He went in for an inspection and the amount of money we’d have had to spend to fix all that was wrong with him was exorbitant. Plus, we knew that even if we fixed him now, something new could go haywire at any time.

So this is like my little eulogy to my beloved first car. Norm, I will love you forever. You were the best first car I could have had. I will always miss your red velvet interior, your automatic seatbelts that scared the shit out of everyone in the passenger seat, the way everything shook when I pushed the gas, and even the way I had to manually open the sunroof in the last year of your life. rip.

Currently in June

I’ll just be upfront and say that this post’s survey has been done before. I’m aware of it because if these two lovely ladies – Amanda and Sam. Sometimes I feel like I need to update you on aspects of my life outside of food and fitness, and while I do that on Sundays with Arman, those questions aren’t always as relevant to my current life.

So what am I obsessed with currently? Let’s see…

Current [book]:

I just finished The Circle, and now I started reading The Storyteller by Jodi Picoult. So far I’m into it. I think Picoult has a unique way of tying the pieces of her stories together. This particular novel is about a woman, whose parents were Jewish, who happens to unknowingly befriend a former Nazi. If that doesn’t pull you in, I don’t know what will.

Current [music]:

On Tuesday, Cassie and I saw the Arctic Monkeys. I always become more obsessed with music after I hear it live, and even though they were already on repeat for me, I’ve been playing them nonstop anyway. Apparently they brought a “heavier stoner sound” to the show. Wish I knew what that meant.

Current [guilty pleasure]:

Chris D’Elia’s new show “Undateable.” NBC at 9pm on Thursdays. So funny.

Current [nail color]:

None. Except a light grey on my toes. I prefer my fingernails unpainted! Is that weird?

Current [drink]:

Current [food]:

Current [wish]:

For my loved ones to be healthy and out of the hospital!

Current [triumph]:

Finding a few job listings that I’m actually qualified for. YAY. Progress.

Current [need]:

Goat cheese. I’m fresh out. Nah, jk. Well, I’m really out, but I don’t actually need goat cheese.

In all seriousness, I need world turmoil to calm down. Every day I open my Skimm email and am saddened to see even more unhappy news out of foreign nations.

Current [bane of existence]:

Crow pose. I cannot get into it not matter what I try! Mmmm that’s not totally true. An instructor at yoga the other day had us try to get into it a different way, and it alllllmost worked for me, but not quite.

Current [indulgence]:

These cookies.

Almond Coconut Cookies – Nutty for Life_3

Current [procrastination]:

Cleaning my room and sorting out all of my belongings to either keep or sell (aka most everything from college).

Current [blessing]:

The fact that I wasn’t this guy.

Current [mood]:

& it’s Friday! Go have a glass of wine or something.

Thankful for Blends [Thinking Out Loud]

I’m currently writing this post as I wait for some chocolate carrot beet muffins to bake. I’m not sure if they’ll turn out… but I’ll eat them anyway. If it has the word chocolate in the title, I’ll probably eat it.

Thanks, Amanda, for designating Thursday as my official ‘random’ day. If you aren’t familiar with Thinking Out Loud, she explains it here. It’s all about spouting your thoughts!

1. Last night, Cassie, Erin, and I met up for dinner at Shady Grove. We love that place. Well, at least I love that place. It’s almost a little ridiculous. It got me thinking about how much I like Erin and how glad I am that I’m her friend blend. Without blogging, I would have never known that she lived in my area, let alone was alive (lol). I’m so thankful that blogging has allowed me to meet more people with shared interests.

2. I’m currently reading The Circle by Dave Eggers. He’s one of my favorite authors (his A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius is a  must-read). Anyway, The Circle is about a woman who gets a job at a company called The Circle, which is a combination of Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc. – basically every online interaction you could have, they are the source. The novel takes a look at transparency both online and in corporations and the government, and it has a creepy air of cult-mentality. So far, I HIGHLY recommend reading it.

3. The World Cup starts today. I could not care less.

4. Um now my dad is making me watch the last episode of 24 with him. We used to watch it regularly. He was really excited when he found out it was coming back on. I was not as excited. This show stresses me out like nothing else. So. It’s 7 am. 24 is on. It’s going to be an… interesting day.

5. I’m going to hot yoga tonight. Maybe that’ll de-stress me. I could use some de-stressing. And stretching. Namaste.

6. Maybe I’m just conceited, but I think I am pretty funny. Sometimes I think of some really great Tweets. I can’t always post them thanks to the air of professionalism I try to present ;), but I still have some good ones IMO. Usually they’re about food. I am now going to show you those Tweets. Gotta keep things kind of spicy in between blog promo, amiright?

Update on the muffins: They smell good, not sure how they taste yet. Also, why do my muffins always go flat after I take them out of the oven!? Seriously. That’s a real question. Answer below if you have some sage wisdom.

Question of the Day:
>> See above^^
>> What is stressing you out lately?!
>> How are you going to de-stress this weekend?
